High School Football

I know this is already on some other threads, but mines a little bit different and i just thought i could get some fresh criticism and ideas.

Alright, so since the seasons almost here and i didnt do as much strength work over the winter as i hoped, heres my new strength-conditioning/ MEBB football schedule:

The MEBB reps are 5-5-3-3-1-1 then 3-2-2-1-1-1 when i get it down
Couple rounds on the heavy bag every morning then;

Mon- Max Effort Lower Body (Back Squats) + Agility
Tue- Crossfit (Swimming, pushups, pullups, oly lifts, no running) Any combo
Wed-Rest
Thur- Max Effort Total Body (Cleans) + 2 rounds 400m, 2 rounds 800m
Fri- Crossfit (Same as above)
Sat- Max Effort Upper Body (Bench Press/Weighted Pullups) + 40 yd Hill Sprints (8)
Sun- Rest

Any thoughts or tweaks are greatly appreciated, thanks

Re: High School Football

Not bad. I don't like leaving out deadlifts or using bench press exclusively. If you are recovering quickly, or don't mind keeping the metcon light, you might try something like this:

Mon- Crossfit (Swimming, pushups, pullups, oly lifts, Burpees, running from 50-200m on Mondays only) and make a sandbag
Tue- Deadlift (less reps), Back Squats or Front Squats
Wed-Rest
Thur- Press or Weighted Dips or Bench Press, Weighted Pull-ups + 40 yd Hill Sprints (8)
Fri- Crossfit (Same as above)
Sat- Cleans, Back Squats + Agility
Sun- Rest

Phillip Garrisonq seems to be an expert on rugby training methods. Perhaps he will post on the subject.

Re: High School Football

What position do you play? How far away from where you wanted to be strength wise are you? What does your team test?

I might leave out the 400s and 800s, when I was playing we did runs at that distance for conditioning, and since you're doing crossfit it's a little redundant. I might sub in a shorter distance (20s 40s or 100s).

Re: High School Football

Im probably going to play tightend, so i need linemen strength. But id also like the speed for defense(which is undecided as position). My team tests Bench press, 40, 3 cone shuffle and Squats. As for how far away i am with strength, id like to do a four week strength schedule like the one i posted, so pretty much until the start of the season, its necessary. Yea, i might sub the 400s for 100's cause my hill sprints are about 40 yds. I like the first posts idea for adding weighted pullups on the same day as BP. Thanks for your advice
