Okay. I'm confused. Normally I just "do" now, and stop thinking so much, but I'll ask anyways in this case. Why are we doing two of the same workouts only 13 days apart?

Honestly, I didn't even do Elizabeth last time, due to random excuses (Not reasons, mind you. I did the 5 rounds of 10 Cleans and 15 Pushups instead), so I'm glad to see her, I'm just curious as to why I am seeing her.

I checked back over my first PR with Cindy (before I starting doing the WOD daily), and saw that there was a time early this summer where we did two Cindys/Marys really close together (May 14th and June 4th). I thought the reasoning behind it was so that if you did Cindy the first time, you could do Mary the next or vice versa.

This I don't understand, though. Any explanations?

Because God frowns on weak hammies. Honestly though, this stuff works because it's at least partially random, and sometimes random means frequent. I guess we just got lucky today.

I guess it's a little like when you've got your CD changer on shuffle - sometimes you get the same track come up twice in the space of ten minutes.

The joys of random...

Hahaha You just reminded me of a Dan Silver post I read a while back, and ALWAYS laugh at, when someone asked "Why do we do legs two days in a row?"

His response: "TO APPEASE OUR DARK LORD SATAN!!!"

Classic.

Ahhh, memories... one of my favourite Dan S posts also, Eric.

But seriously, you see this happen all the time in the WOD. You can go for weeks without seeing any kind of repeat, then periods where "similar" movements appear to be trained frequently, to the repeating of the same WOD, eg Elizabeth. Earlier in the year, we also had a "Fran-a-thon", with many variations of Fran.

All sorts of patterns within patterns emerge. I've had weeks where I've had constant soreness in my lats, because there's no letup from pullup-mania. Ditto for hamstring soreness.

Although, as above, the short answer is "because it's random".

Pat,

Your short answer is exactly what I was expecting to hear, but I didn't know if there was more to it than that. Thanks!

Eric, in the first 4 weeks i was doing crossfit it felt like all i did was Fran variations and more pullups.

The end result was that i ended up being a lot better at pullups and haven't lost that ability since.

Random is good!

I don't know this, but I don't think there is a CF supercomputer which analyzes every move imputed for the last three years and spits out the next perfect random workout. I would guess Coach,Lauren and others, spin their brains and a wod comes out. More like magic and art then logic and science. Like the IPod, some songs are going to come up more frequently. I fondly remember one week running a 5k the next a 10k. Or it could be satan!

I had asked why we work legs two days in a row. I loved Dan's smart @$$ remark.

That's one of my favorites: "To appease our Dark Lord Satan" along with a recent one from Kalen about meat "SACRIFICED ON THE FIERY ALTAR OF THE DARK LORD" for Andrea's eating meat and getting her amazing pullup increase.
