Re: Poorman's Rings
Old thread, but I'll share my experiences:
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_NuFNv96U5B8/SU...4/IMG_0383.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/_NuFNv96U5B8/SU...4/IMG_0384.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/_NuFNv96U5B8/SU...4/IMG_0385.JPG Worked great! Really couldn't be happier for the price. I would highly recommend this to anyone. A tip: Make sure to check the load rating on your ropes/straps. Wouldn't want them to break on you. |

Re: Poorman's Rings
I made some using the same oven/sand/paint can techniques listed herein. I then used chain, secure links and tie down straps to complete the shebang and they work great. I have a full list of homemade goodies & instructions on our blog site for anyone interested.

Re: Poorman's Rings
thanks guys, this thread has been most helpful. I've got a ton of sched40 1" pvc lying around so I put together a set of parallettes today and cut up the lengths for the "future rings." Now I just need to find the right place to hang them from...

Re: Poorman's Rings
Can anyone please tell me exactly what type of straps to ask for when i go to Home Depot? The ones that look like this:

Also, a friend told me to go to the dog store and they have hard plastic chew "rings" made for large dogs. They are made out of either hard rubber or plastic. I figure either would do the job. Thanks - Helen |

Re: Poorman's Rings
How do you fit 27 inches of pvc pipe in the oven?
I've got all the ingredients but can't bake my cake! |

Re: Poorman's Rings
You can usually pull the top oven racks out, like if you need to fit a 25-lb turkey in there.
Then if you need to you can angle the pvc from the upper back corner down to the lower front-opposite side of the oven. That is top-right-back to bottom-left-front, for example. |

Re: Poorman's Rings
Thanks for that they fit now - also had to lop an inch off the end but shouldn't make much difference.

Re: Poorman's Rings
Here are my Mark 1 rings
The one on the left was only in the oven for 10 mins so was harder to bend. The one on the right was in for 13 mins as Rx'd and came out much better. I was surpised the duct tape didn't melt. I got 3 metres of 32 mm pvc waste pipe for £3. Duct tape was £2.92. Already had paving sand which is perfect, very fine. Got the 450kg load rope and carabiners to clip on. Now to fix it to the garage ceiling. Thanks James and all other posters. |
