Re: 2013 Open, Regionals and Games Thread

I felt like Graham Holmberg got too big last year, but seems to have leaned out a bit this year, wish he was doing a bit better.

I wonder if there will be good footage of the trees again this year. lol

Jason is off to a great start. I don't think Dan has the finish to take it. I think Rich is done, but who will step up and take it from him?

I think too many athletes are focusing way too much on the strength part and they are getting killed on the endurance stuff. I also think that the CrossFit Games should have a balance of strength, conditioning, and skill movements, this way, the competitors know that they have to be well balanced.

And I think they are doing a waaaay better job of this than they did last year. So far they've got extra-long distance (row half marathon), medium-long distance (Naughty Nancy) w/ "unknown and unknowable" challenges (Burden Run), mid-distance (Pool, 2k row split), sprints (mini-chipper, zigzag run) and a max-load event (Clean & Jerk ladder). Good stuff all-around I think.

You don't really think of swimming being that associated with crossfit but swimming keeps coming back in the games

Yes, this year SO FAR looks very balanced and I'm liking it.

I agree. The last few years you could pop in a power lifter and he would of done relatively well in all or many of the events. I have always told people who do not follow cf that yes this people are the fittest.
A marathon runner cant dead lift 305 10x then box jump and repeat
A power lifter cant do the 25 swim with 3 bar muscle ups and another swim.
and the above to do a hand stand walk or 50 ttb....

it takes a well rounded, super fit, athlete.

I noticed this a lot this year, so many gave up endurance and met con type stuff to get a big snatch. Lots of those guys fell on the leader board. I love that CrossFit is still CrossFit, I have been working on my push ups and box jumps!

Re: 2013 Open, Regionals and Games Thread

This is the first year I have noticed people talking about Dan being 10 pounds too heavy or Graham being too heavy by a few pounds to adequately perform body weight movements like running and gymnastics. Usually it was stuff about body types like speall's body type vs. guys like Mackay. It is interesting to me that things have gotten this analytic....I like it.

I'm sure Rich talking awhile ago about not wanting to be over 200 lbs made a few people realize that adding too many pounds of muscle onto your frame can be debilitating.
