Snatch 185 Pr + 190 Fails

So little background. Was stuck at 165 for a long time (Open Snatch WOD killed me here).

Have been working technique and I know I've got a long way to go. Have really tried to 'slow' down Pull 1. I sit WAY to high... I try Snatch Balances/etc but I struggle to find a way to 'drop/pull under' fast and get low...

Anyways critique please and here are the links. All are SFW

Re: Snatch 185 Pr + 190 Fails

Okay, a couple of things I see going on: First, look straight ahead, NOT DOWN!!! you're looking down at the ground in front of you, get your sightline to a point straight ahead of you or slightly up. Second, try widening your stance at the start just a little bit, this might help get more leg and hip drive off the floor. You have a slight problem with letting the hips rise faster than the shoulders, but I think this may be due to the looking down effect.

To follow-up on what Keith said, because your hips are coming up faster it leaves you out on your toes as you bring the bar up into your hips. If you pause it at about 26 seconds on your first 190# miss. You can see that right when you've got the bar in your hips you're weight is up on your toes and you end up jumping straight up and pulling the weight up as opposed to keeping your weight back and driving down through your heels and whipping the bar up. Staying back on your heels will also help get you under the bar faster. BTW

I'm not a coach lol but working on the same things you are. I'm sure some folks who are coaches will be more helpful. Good luck!

Re: Snatch 185 Pr + 190 Fails

Thanks guys

Spent some time today working at 95lbs-145lbs practicing this stuff.

I basically deadlift the weight up, then drop knees under it for my 2nd pull, losing some energy along way... Trying to stay back, look up, and rise at same speed

Ty

Re: Snatch 185 Pr + 190 Fails

Ya keep that chest up and hips down. Learning to transition onto the heels once you pass your knees made all the difference for me. You're not just pulling the bar up, you're pulling it up and shifting it back along with your bodyweight.

You're still power snatching. You could full snatch 215 probably with just proper technique work. You have the strength and power easily.
