60 vs. 90 min. aerobic for weight loss

With jogging for weight loss, which is better: 60 mins. daily (with 1 day off per week), or 90 mins. every other day?

On the one hand I thought the daily aerobic is better, but on the other hand the longer time is better for burning fat.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Try interval training instead, its lot more effective at burning fat and raising your metabolic rate post exercise. After a Long Slow Duration Run, your body ceases to burn calories, a High Intense Interval session can raise you Metabolic rate 36 hours after the session ends, will preserve strength and power and also is time efficient.

Use LSD training as a recovery run at the end of a hard week but it should not constitute as your primary means of conditioning.

Sample HIIT Session:

5 min jog
Sprint 400m, walk 200m x8.

60 minutes daily with the one day off should do! You should probably make sure you "carb up" though before hand, i.e. lots of pastas, sugars...and other healthy stuff like that. If you're going to be serious about losing weight STAY AWAY from the heavy weights, they'll just hurt you and/or make you slow and bulky. I'm quite certain others are going to post their thoughts and comments. In the meantime, do a REALLY thorough "search" on this website. You may get some really good definitive answers. :stir:

Re: 60 vs. 90 min. aerobic for weight loss

it depends

is your goal actual weight loss or fatloss?

usually the two go hand in hand till a certain point but I wouldnt get too hung up on actual weight unless you have to be a particular weight for a sport or something. By adding muscle to your body you increase your metabolism so you will burn more calories throughout the day.
The fundamental rule for weight loss is that you must burn more calories than you consume. If you choose to do just cardio your better off doing HIIT (google it) its takes less time and its not boring.
remember than 80% of your results will be determined by what your putting in your mouth.

You're probably still having your morning coffee. So, you can use that excuse instead.

I agree with Robert intervals would be best, due to burning more calories in the hours after your workout by doing high intensity over LSD. It is good to mix things up.

I also wonder if by doing more intervals you would be more likely to:
...hang on to muscle mass by working aerobically/anerobically
...better avoid over use injuries due to less time spent in repetitive motion?

Not to mention the good feeling that comes after you have exercised yourself into a quivering bowl of jello.
