Anyone have a greens smoothie recipe?

Looking for something to make quickly for breakfast that includes a good helping of green veggies. The fewer exotic ingredients the better, but any info would be appreciated.

Re: Anyone have a greens smoothie recipe?

At San Francisco Crossfit there have been a few of us making veggie "slurry's" every once in a while. They don't taste that great, but are a quick way to get your vegetables. Basically, I just throw anything in there that will blend. Cooked Broccoli (I always have a ton of Broccoli), tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach and some water. The key I have found is to get enough water in there that it is more like a V8 than like a slushy texture. If its too thick I have trouble choking it down. One other suggestion is to add some tomato paste to flavor.

Good luck blending.

Re: Anyone have a greens smoothie recipe?

My basic breakfast recipe: large handful of broccoli sprouts, kale leaves, handful of parsley, 1/2 a lime, 1/2 a small apple, 8 oz coconut water kefir or rejuvelac. I'll add or substitute other greens as they come into season. Once in a great while I'll sub a bit of mango or pear for the apple (add some fresh mint to the pear - very good).

Re: Anyone have a greens smoothie recipe?

Wow, something I feel qualified to reply to! I'm a "recovering" raw vegan, so I've downed a good share of green smoothies in my day!

My favorites:

Strawberry Banana Romaine
1 head romaine
1 cup strawberries
2 bananas

Mango Parsley
1 bunch parsley
2 mangoes

Pineapple Cress
1 bunch watercress
1/2 - 1 whole pineapple

Just dump in a blender and add enough water to make it the consistency you like.

4 radishes
3 carrots

Try juicing instead of a smoothie. It's much more appetising in the morning and I find that drinking veg juice about an hour out from a workout really energises you like nothing else. Try broccoli, carrot, celery, apple, ginger and squeeze some lime on there at the end. It's delicious and you'll be bouncing off the walls come workout time. 3, 2, 1.....

Re: Anyone have a greens smoothie recipe?

bunch of broad leafy greens (kale, spinach, collard, mustard, whatever). You can buy frozen versions of these, including a "southern mix" that has all of the above)

berries or juice to to taste. I like about 2 or 3 oz pineapple or pineapple juice.

water to consistency you prefer.

Add-ins: fish oil, nutritional yeast (yeah, some people hate it, I like it).

Blend.

Re: Anyone have a greens smoothie recipe?

Nice timing. My 8yo daughter just told me the other day that her classmate brings green smoothies for lunch made with kale among other things. Since her mom revamped their diet her asthma doesn't flare up as much. When she heard we make kefir she asked for some grains.

I'm gonna have to try a kefir and kale smoothie here soon.
