We've been using a particular brand of Mac nut oil that we bought at a health food store, and although rather costly, we love it. Then the other day, my wife picked up a cheaper bottle at Trader Joe's (neat store BTW).
It doesn't taste near as good as the first kind we bought. I compared them to see what the difference was. The cheaper, not so good stuff is from Hawaii, and the real good stuff is from Australia. I don't know if there's a difference nutritionaly, but the oil from Australia tastes much better IMO. A salad with some Aussie mac nut oil and a little raspberry vinegrette is heaven in a bowl. |

Now that should hardly surprise you, Donald.
Australia is where macadamia nuts originate from; so they obviously like it better here... I eat a lot of macadamias (had a tree in the backyard as a kid) but I have to admit, I've never tried the oil. |

Yeah, I really hate to cast anything negative about Hawaii. I was born there.
But hey, taste buds don't lie. |

That's a funny coincidence that this was brought up. I bought the Macadamia Nut Oil a couple of weeks ago for the first time and my hubby and I both really like the flavor it adds to meats and to stir fry veggies! It is the Hawaiian one, so if the the Australian one is even better, I look forward to trying it. I'm definitely done with olive oil for now, at least since I've found this stuff! There's no comparison; it's a really unique flavor.
