Football and Crossfit

Hi my name is Derek and i just graduated high school and was planning to play college football. but i injured my back during the springtime.and after a couple of months of physical therapy im finally able to workout again.i just started cross fit a week ago. Im wondering if cross fit is the right thing to do for a year to get ready for football? Also im on the paleo diet for over 3 weeks and i haven't taken any days off from that: I went from 220 to about 205.
i would like to know anybodys opinion.

Re: Football and Crossfit

Well I just researched that and it sounds cool. How much should I consume in a day?

Enough to support your goals.

What is your strength, height, and relative weaknesses?

Pure paleo is probably the wrong way to go unless you need to lose more weight.

Re: Football and Crossfit

To get more specific advice, we would need to know more about you.
How tall are you? What position do you play? Do you need to be fast or a hard hitter? etc...

I would say though, that when doing CFFB, you wont notice a huge performance difference in any of the WoDs if you are 205 - 225, so being bigger wouldnt hurt. In that case, you could probably do the whole GOMAD thing. If you are lactose intolerant, be prepared for hilarity! (you may become a little gassy....)

When you think about your switch to paleo, when you give up bread and pasta and such, you are consuming a lot less calories and carbs, so you need to replace them.

I am doing CFFB (and a really undisciplined paleo...) and I can tell you that if you follow the program, you will get stronger. I am getting used to hitting PRs almost daily.

Well I weighed at max in high school at 240 but that was when I worked out a lot and ate a lot of fat. I played center in football but I want to play d-line. Haha no I'm not lactose intolerant . I need to gain speed. But normal cross fit my main option. What do you recommend?

Re: Football and Crossfit

Normal Crossfit will not get you the speed you need. You need explosive strength, sprinting technique, and agility.

CF Football will be a lot closer to what you need. A coach for your sprinting and agility would help too, but that isn't always available.

Re: Football and Crossfit

The goal of regular crossfit is to develop GPP whereas CrossFit Football programming is directly tailored towards developing you into a better football player. Considering your goal is to play in college, this sounds like a good choice.

What are your best lifts so far? Bench, back squat, dead, cleans, etc.
