Re: Congrats to Graham Holmberg CF Games Winner

I think I was yelling more at Part I of the last workout. Dude went ALL OUT to finish...and screwed himself. Yes the Rope Climb hurt him, however I think he lost it in the 2nd part because he was so gassed from part I. He could've stopped with one full minute left (Like Tommy H.), still gotten the 1 point, rested for a full 1.5 mins, then started part 2 more rested than the other guys. Then all he had to do was stay with Graham on Part 2 and he had it locked. But I think that was the genius of the last part. No coaches, no prep, no learning new movements right before, no gaming...just how good are you right now, do this, and do it as best you can. Genius programming idea, still think the RC's with no pads was an awful awful safety idea, such an easy fix too...mind blowing how they overlooked that.

I doubt that that was an oversight. I totally believe that Castro & Company took a "that's Crossfit" approach to this one.

What I do think was an oversight - and thankfully didn't seem to have much (if any) impact - was the pushups on hot-as-hell black mats. Given how quickly Castro moved the girls in the first heat so that they could put their hands in the shade, I think they just never thought of how hot those mats would be on the hands.

I never really heard much talk about how hot the bars (both pullup and barbells) must have been, but they couldn't have been too comfy either.

Re: Congrats to Graham Holmberg CF Games Winner

Yeh that lack of pads was so stupid. Anyone see some of the falls? Rich was clearly limping in the medal ceremony and I could take a guess as to what caused that . Also, if they wanted let the athletes do PUs on a cool surface during that last workout they could have simply removed some of the mats close to the walls, I'm sure the concrete/cement under there was much cooler.

Anyways congrats to the winners and all the participants that made it to the games, the top-32 and the top-16. They all put on a great show for the rest of us!

Re: Congrats to Graham Holmberg CF Games Winner

I didn't see a single athlete take off their shirt to do pushups on to save themselves from the heat. That would've probably helped.

I think with matting under the ropes, you would have had more athletes feel willing to fall than without. Without pads makes the workout harder, because the athletes know they have to control themselves coming down. I would recommend padding the support posts, though

Cool workout, great setup. 3-2-1 Go, no gaming and no holding back.

I'll be surprised if Rich Froning doesn't have a pretty serious injury from that fall. Fractured coccyx, sacrum, pelvis, or SI joint injury. He was limping pretty good at the awards ceremony. Hope thats not the case, but he landed hard, in a bad position.

So where did Rich come from? I haven't really heard much about him until the games. Was he another out of nowhere competitor?

As for Graham, I think I've heard of him before. Did he place in last years games or something?

Congrats to Graham and Kristan. Great effort, great focus, great performances.

Commiserations to Rich and Annie. Same as above. It's hard to say anything helpful, except perhaps that they forced the winners to fight to the end.

I hope perhaps to see them win in the future. It would be deserved.

Froning Jr. won the Southeast Regional. He's new, but his Regional win means he didn't really come from out of nowhere.

Holmberg was 19th place in Aromas last year.
