Just fruit for breakfast?
I know that paleo diets and the zone are most cf's prefrence. BUT, if these are not possible for an Individual, as a second best, what do people think of eating nothing but fruit for breakfast? How does it compare to other options, eg a bowl of oats with milk?

Re: Just fruit for breakfast?
Me personally - I'd rather fast than have fruit by itself. I'll perform well fasted, but I will fall into a insulin coma after just fruit.

Re: Just fruit for breakfast?
Wouldn't work for me. I need a lot of calories for breakfast and if I got them all from sugar I would be in trouble. Nuts, eggs, and fruit is my regular breakfast.

Re: Just fruit for breakfast?
The problem with JUST fruit is they lack calories! You'd have to eat a ton of them. I eat very generous portions of fruit every morning, but also nuts/seeds. It works for me.

Along the same line as the above posters...
My breakfasts usually include 2 cups of mixed fruit (strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, blackberries, etc.), 16 oz of whole milk, 2 eggs and 2 ounces of cheese. Fruit alone won't do it for me. |

Re: Just fruit for breakfast?
Is there a reason you want to have just fruit for breakfast?

Blend fruit (berries work real well for this), eggs, milk and yogurt for a yummy and filling breakfast.

Re: Just fruit for breakfast?
Why fruit? Are you looking for something quick & easy? Something more paleo (not a grain)? What does "if these are not possible for an Individual" mean?
Fruit is just sugar, and maybe some fiber. It's dessert, to be consumed in moderation (well, some nutrients as well, but still all about moderation). Pre-cook some meat - sausage, bacon, steak, chicken, etc and eat that. There's nothing that says breakfast has to be a 'breakfast food'. It's just another meal, and you should eat to match your goals. Are you trying to reload carbs post-workout, or fuel yourself for the upcoming day, or ? I have a coffee and some pre-cooked chicken sausages for breakfast (I workout before breakfast). Quick & easy, the sausage reheats in the microwave as I make my coffee. Sometimes I'll add a small (4oz) glass of OJ b/c I hardly eat fruit and need the vitamins ![]() This keeps me full and happy until early afternoon, when I'll have veggies and bacon (yay for microwave bacon!), than dinner is a big salad and more meat... |
