Re: Brent's Workout Log

Couldn't do my SS workout due to the pulled hip flexor. Press 2x5x45 1x5x55 1x3x75 1x2x85 1x1x100 (FAILED on the first rep. 3rd failure at 100, and getting weaker. Time for a Reset. Cut 20 pounds). 3x5x80 After I did the press I just did a lot of upper body work. Chin-ups, Pull-ups, incline bench, bicep curls, tricep pushdown. What crushed me was dips. At 195 lbs I was barely able to complete one dip. Very embarrasing. Dips are a pretty "functional" movement, so to have a big deficiency in this area was a bummer. Hopefully my hip heals quick so I can get back on my SS program. |

Bench Press 2x5 45 1x5 65 1x3 95 1x2 115 3x5 140 I was seriously afraid of getting trapped under the bar of the last rep at 140. Press 2x5 45 1x5 45 1x3 65 1x2 75 3x5 85 After Press and Bench Press I worked on my pullups and dips. Dippin' ain't easy. Then I tried to do a handstand...failed. 2 minutes of tabata decline situps |

Weight: 194.4# (hmmm, I'm shrinking) Press 2x5 45 1x5 55 1x3 65 1x2 75 3x5 90 90 pounds was surprisingly hard. I'm getting really tired of having a sore psoas major... not sure what to do. Following press, again dips, chin-ups and pullups. Practiced my handstand... the problem is my wrist flexibility, especially my right wrist. I've had several RSI making extension to 90 degrees quite painful. 2 minutes of tabata decline situps |

Bench Press 2x5 45 1x5 65 1x3 95 1x2 125 5/4/5 145 I barely got it up on the 4th rep, i racked it for safety's sake. I had a spotter on the last set, and despite him not touch the bar, I made it to 5 reps. I think him being there gave me the confidence to give 100% 800m treadmill (knee began to hurt) 10 L-chinups 800m elliptical (lower impact on knee) 20 Strict Chin-ups 800m elliptical 13 Kipping Chin-ups 27 Assisted Chin-ups (30# assistance) sadly the entire gym doesn't have 1 real pullup bar. My hands got cut up from all the chin's. Also, starting today, I've leaned out my diet. I'm going pure paleo, and cutting the kcal back from 5000+ to closer to 2500... As long as I'm not squatting heavy (hip flexor ![]() Brent |

Re: Brent's Workout Log
Good work, Brent.
I sent you a long over due PM to respond to your PM (again, I'm sorry that I never realized you sent me a message. I've got to start checking that little box!), but then realized you were linking me to a workout log and I could just respond here ![]() Good job sticking to the program before your injury. Based on those jumps I'm guessing you've made some beastly gains on squats before that muscle pull. What were you squatting before SS? I was very psyched too get two 45's on that bar as well. Shallow and stupid, I know, but being able to squat greater than 225 makes me strut around the gym a little more, haha. If I did another couple months I could get THREE wheels on each side of the bar! That would be sick! I don't know if I could handle my legs getting any bigger, though, haha! Did you take measurements before you started? How did you pull the hip flexor? Any idea when you'll be able to squat again? You done with SS for now? |

Re: Brent's Workout Log
Quote:
I started my squat at 115 (although my previous PR was 135)... I got it up to 240# before I was sidelined. I'm not sure exactly what happened. I was at the bottom of my squat and I think my right knee pushed outward a bit. I didn't notice any distinct injury. I just felt sore in the illiopsoas that night, and the soreness didn't go away despite resting, ice, massage, etc. I bulked up a lot, and not completely in a good way. So while the illiopsoas is healing i'm going back to a CF style workout and diet, albeit continuing to maintain my press and bench. Hopefully I'll cut down a few pounds and BF% without losing too much strength, so i have a good base to restart my SS. |
