Re: Crock Pot / Slow Cooker
This chili isn't too elaborate but it tasted amazing after a long day of statistics studying, trudging around in the cold wet weather, and a 2 hour water polo practice.
Browned 1 lb of 93% lean beef with a diced onion and bell pepper in pan (night before and put in fridge) Before leaving for class the next morning put it in crock pot on low with... Can of diced tomatoes, Can of Kidney beans, Loads of cumin, chili powder, and pepper. Like i said pretty simple but it really hit the spot when getting home at 10pm after a long day. |

Re: Crock Pot / Slow Cooker
Keep it coming guys!!! Great thread, as a single guy that works waaaaay to much to cook during the week this will come in handy, as well as when I'm sitting on the couch watching football on Saturday and Sunday. The great thing about slow cookers is you can throw just about anything you have laying around the house into it and it will end up tasting great. Thanks everyone!!!

Re: Crock Pot / Slow Cooker
I have to admit... this thread made me go out and buy a crock pot...
But after a few meals with it, and following the recipes word for word from the crockpot.com site, I noticed the times given to cook the meals turn the meat overcooked and dry. Anyone else noticing this? |

Chili is great in the crockpot but you can used ground turkey and it tastes just as good and is much leaner than beef. Last weekend we did brisket and it was amazing.

Re: Crock Pot / Slow Cooker
make sure you have enough water or stock to keep the meat moist. I usually never put my crock pot on high, I just keep it on low all day while at work. If you keep it on high I find it drys stuff out.

Re: Crock Pot / Slow Cooker
Okay, here's one that came out awesome. Cut up 2 onions, 2 carrots, 2 stalks celery. Stick in crockpot. Add 1 whole chicken, and some salt and pepper to taste, and about half a cup water, oh and some basil. Cook on low 8-10 hours (or on high for longer with more water). SOOOO good!
