Re: Zone meals are ridiculously huge!

I am glad I am not the only one finding the Zone meals ridiculously huge and I am only having a 3 block salad for lunch. It is just so much food and I just can't finish it.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a 3 block salad type lunch that I just pack in a Tupperware container and take to work?

At the moment I am eating:
85g of turkey breast, deli-style (2 protein)

28g of cheese (1 protein)

2 cups of spinach leaves (1/2 carbs)

1 1/2 cups of mushrooms (1/2 carbs)

1 cup of green beans (1 carb)

1 carrot (1 carb)

1/2 teaspoon of sunflower seeds (2 fats)

Balsamic vinegar & olive oil (1 fat)

It is just way too much.

Re: Zone meals are ridiculously huge!

When I would have a 3 block salad I would put:

deli slice each of ham, turkey and roast beef (3p) - I lay the slices on each other, roll them up and slice them into little roulades
2 cups Spinach (.5c)
3/4 cup tomatoes (1c)
3 pickles (1c)
1/4 cup hummus - kinda drizzled on top (.5c)
a handful of sliced almonds (~3f)

lemon juice, salt and pepper to flavor.

It fits nicely in a rectangular rubbermaid lunch container. But I put the pickles in a sandwich bag..

Fruits!
Get a block or two from fruit. Dense, delicious, fiber, vitamin packed.
I also second the sweet potatoes.

You can drop a carb blocks and add fat blocks to make salads of more manageable sizes.

mmm I wouldn't start tweaking things until you get a good baseline following it strictly. Once you see how your body is reacting they i'd adjust w/ 2x fat or replacing a carb block with fat blocks.

I think it depends no? I followed a strict 18 block zone and it was too many carbs too often I often felt like I was eating veggies and fruit from a trough... I started getting soft in the midsection. This was, mind you, after about 3-4 weeks strict zoning.

after I just deleted 1 carb block at a time, and added 3 fat blocks a la robb wolf

Michael is right. Ignore my advice for a few weeks. Try to find more calorie dense carb sources (I love adding berries into salads for example).

How can i find more nutrient dense foods. I am having the same problem, my zone meals are huge, and i'm on a 15 block/day, i'm not a big guy, (except in my gut...which has gotten smaller, thanks crossfit!)

All the bests!
