pre w.o. meal and P.w.o. (doing paleo)

i started doing paleo and i would like to know what is a good pre workout meal and a good post workout meal for my w.o.d? Another question, since crossfit is varied, Is the intake on pre and post meals different as well, for example if its strength day would eat more before and after, and its metcon, do you just a right amount that gives you plenty of fuel to work on and recover?

Do a search for this, and look at the bottom of this page, this topic has been beaten to death. You will find many different suggestions, but the main thing is to try out different combos of food and see which ones work better for you.

Personally I like whey protein. I know it's not paleo but I let it slide once in a while as I really feel good about an hour after I take it, and I know it's what my body needs at that time.

I've been doing a lot of yams and chicken PWO.

There are Nazis on here who will tell you yams aren't Paleo, but whatever...it works for me. Robb Wolf recommends it too.

Basically if it's a workout that's going to use the glycolytic pathway (which classifies almost every metcon, every set of short rowing running, swimming, or biking intervals, any type of Tabata) then you'll do well to have a reasonable amount of carbohydrates shortly before the workout, and shortly afterward to replenish the glycogen stores.

If you're doing primarily endurance work at sub-racing pace or if you're doing instantaneous-type strength work, you won't be using as much glycogen, and it's not as important. But a pre-workout and post workout meal is still important anyway.

The body can produce 16% more ATP from glycogen/glucose than from fatty acid metabolism, so if you're going for top notch performance, you can't rely totally on fat to provide you with a source of energy.

Recently I've been eating fruit before a workout, and after the workout I usually have a full meal. Pre workout I've been doing raisins, apples, bananas, oranges, prunes, or pears. Afterward is just a regular meal such as ground turkey, spinach, almonds, peppers, etc. So those are some paleo suggestions for you.

I know Cordain doesn't like bananas or raisins but I disagree here. I find them much better than his recommendation to use starchy tubers (as stated in Paleo for Athletes).
