Why Paleo AND Zone?

I'm curious why a person would do both Paleo and Zone. Doesn't Paleo prescribe just eating when you are hungry where as the Zone is strict with timing and meal sizes? I did a bit of searching and I found a lot of people doing Paleo + Zone, but I couldn't find a good explanation why.

Highest quality food (Paleo) in the optimal proportions (Zone)...that's it.

Re: Why Paleo AND Zone?

Everyone should eat paleo. The zone optimizes insulin response which keeps you healthy, lean, energetic, etc.

Re: Why Paleo AND Zone?

For someone like myself who previously never thought of food as a drug. Eating the zone taught me how much to eat, eating paleo taught me what to eat. Pretty simple, but effective.

No, Paleo says what you can eat. There is nothing about when (ie hungry) or how much to eat. Note that many of us are switching to the term Primo (or something like that), because paleo has become a fad, and there are a lot of books about the paleo diet that are nothing like what we do. (some of them are also nothing like a caveman would eat either)

Re: Why Paleo AND Zone?

Zone = Quantity; Paleo = Quality. That's the way I look at it.

Re: Why Paleo AND Zone?

Matthew, if you look anything like your avatar you shouldn't worry about the Zone or Paleo. Just eat lots of meat and drink lots of Vodka!

Really though, everyone on here has given good explanations.

Re: Why Paleo AND Zone?

One reason is the Zone is a common language. If you are eating Paleo, in Zone blocks then it's a lot easier for you or your trainer to manipulate your diet. The weighing and measuring of the Zone makes your diet info data that can be manipulated / adjusted. That is harder with just a SWAG (scientific wild a$$ guess).

The more measurable, repeatable, data driven your diet, the better it can be dialed in - assuming you are wanting to do that.

Re: Why Paleo AND Zone?

I only do paleo.

I actually think that paleo - zone is an oxymoron. The paleolithic man never measured out or timed his meals. Clocks and scales were not yet invented.

I am not looking to get in a debate. It's just my perspective. Plus, I don't want to spend time measuring my food.
