Hitting it hard -- Diet & Training Log

I am 26 years old, 5'10", 205 lbs. I will be joining my local CrossFit tomorrow. I am not new to working out, but I have not been nearly as consistent as I would like to be since starting graduate school 3 years ago. I weighed 185lbs when I started graduate school and that is my goal now. As recently as January I was running 6 miles every other day but have not done anything physical since the end of January because of my demanding schedule (85-100 hrs/week for the last 3 months). My schedule eases up for the next 8 weeks and I would like to take full advantage, learn the CrossFit methods/principles, and hopefully transform my body.

I will be starting a paleo style diet tomorrow as well, although I am not too worried about being a cave man. I will still have a whey protein shake or two and whatnot, but 99.9% of the time will be a clean diet. My macro split goal is roughly 40% prot / 40% fat / 20% carbs. Looking back on my past weight loss attempts, my greatest success at losing weight and keeping it off has been going ~20% carbs and 40/40 on the p/f. So that's what I'll do now.

I will post my workouts, and will make every effort to record diet.

Re: Hitting it hard -- Diet & Training Log

5/3/10 -- Prepared meals. Seems a bit low (I should probably be getting 2400 cals), but unfortunately meal #2 and #4 will be sporadic as my schedule is not set from day to day and I never know when I'll have 5 minutes to inhale my snacks.

#1 --> 7AM (570 cals)
3 eggs --> 214
4 slice beef bacon --> 117
Mushrooms (1/2 cup) --> 40
Whey protein shake (48g) --> 195
12oz coffee (black) --> 4

#2 --> 10 AM (236 cals)
Walnuts (30g) --> 196
Blueberries (75g) --> 40

#3 --> 1PM (558)
Beef rump roast (226g) -->320
Green string beans (200g) --> 118
Avocado (75g) --> 120

#4 --> 5PM (272)
Whey protein shake (48g) --> 195
Raspberries (75g) --> 77

6 or 7PM CrossFit

#5 --> 8PM (500)
Salmon (150g) --> 220
Carrots (x4) --> 120
Avocado (75g) --> 120
Mushrooms (1/2 cup) --> 40

TOTALS: 2,128 kCals / 101.3 fat (42%) / 113 carbs (20%) / 200 protein (38%)

Re: Hitting it hard -- Diet & Training Log

Did my first crossfit today. Ouchies. I did half of all the WOD exercises per my trainers advice. After finishing in 14:58, I wanted to die. And could not imagine enduring anymore! One thing is for sure, I will need to add some good carbs before my workouts. I couldn't function at a high level with the little that I had to eat. I think I will eat something more substantial between 4-5PM (whenever I can). Maybe 400-500 cals (chicken breast + sweet potato). I also need to hydrate better throughout the day. That has always been a struggle for me, but I need to get better. I did strain my neck tonight when my instructor was helping me with handstand pushups. That kind of sucks. Will try to jump on some NSAIDs and stretch it, but it's not my first time so it'll be a week before it'll ease up regardless of what I do. Anyways, time to make tomorrows meals (pretty much today's just re-ordered). Looking forward to tomorrow's *** kicking.
