Olive Oil Butter

What's everyone's take on this stuff. I saw it in the store today, and according to the ingredients it's just a blend of butter and olive oil. Still my processing alarm was going off.

Re: Olive Oil Butter

I don't know, personally I like the taste of olive oil too much to want to dilute it with something... and when I have butter, I want to really taste the butter.

Re: Olive Oil Butter

All of the "olive oil butters" I've seen in stores have other oils (canola, soybean, etc) in them. Leave them. Make your own if anything. Just use butter, or olive oil, coconut oil etc. They're all good alone. Why ruin butter?

Re: Olive Oil Butter

I make my own by putting 2 sticks of softened organic butter and 2/3 of a cup of olive oil in our stand mixer and blending it with the whisk attachment until it's smooth, then pouring it into a container to keep in the fridge.

It makes the butter spreadable when cold, and is more healthy than plain butter. I also suspect it is less expensive than a store bought version. And you know exactly what's in it.

Per serving, it has more of the good fats you get from olive oil.

Re: Olive Oil Butter

are you saying that butter is made of bad fats?

and what are you qualifying as "plain butter"?

Ay carumba.

What I'm saying is that if you add olive oil to butter, you benefit by getting a shot of monounsaturated fat that you otherwise wouldn't get. Hence, it is healthier.

"Plain butter" is describing butter without olive oil, just as one would describe "plain yogurt" as yogurt without any flavoring, sweetener, or fruits in it.
