great article Jay!

I am always baffled when people tell me they are 'going vegetarian' for the purpose of health/weight loss. That and of course the bagel-and-low-fat-cream-cheesers

cows taste good

Thanks for the link, Jay.

Ugh...that buffet sounds like a continental breakfast at a cheap hotel.

I saw this earlier. Mark Sisson's blog is another one that's added to the bookmarks. Happy that it was guest posted as I hadn't seen it on Mark's actual blog before.

Sounds like such a horrible food spread. All that sugar would have me asleep quick.

Modern Forager, Mark's Daily Apple, and the IF blog continue to amaze by consistenly delivering top notch health and fitness content. Not easy to do considering the plethora of information out there on the web. Especially enjoy the sites as all three authors not only talk the talk, but walk the walk. They practice what they preach which scores high in my book in terms of respect.

Re: Great article over at Modern Forager-My-Escape-from-Vegan-Island

Good piece... thanks for the link.

I've been thinking about the whole vegetarian/vegan lifestyle, and while it may have merits for some, too many go about it the wrong way.

I'm a huge baseball fan: last season, Prince Fielder of the Milwaukee Brewers decided to become a vegetarian. At times, he dabbled in the vegan lifestyle. In part, he does this because he believes that it's cruel to animals (the kid is pretty outspoken on a lot of environmental issues, and things of that nature), and because he's a big, fat guy.

So, he decided to go vegetarian. Here are the details (WFS).

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=720531

Quote:
That 6-foot, 260-pound build is powered by wheatgrass, soy and tofu nowadays. No meat. Not even fish.
After the first nearly two months of the season, and well into his regimen, he's still a fat ***. In fact, he's listed at 10 pounds heavier than when he reported to spring training.

Just something to think about: there are smart and dangerous ways to go about the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle.

Since ominvores eat herbivores, why didn't he just hunt and eat the other people at the retreat?

Most of the vegatarians I know have a horrible diet, cheese pizza, fries, pancakes, waffles, potatoes. I eat more veggies than they do.
