Swim test in the games
http://games.crossfit.com/features/swim-test-announced (WFS)
Thoughts? This is a for sure that swimming will be in the games, IMO. But what happens if some athletes can't swim? |

Re: Swim test in the games
It's an interesting move, the test.
Let's just say that they identify through the test that (for example) all of the athletes can swim but that Spealler (again, just an example) swims like an Olympian and Khalipa can swim but really really really sucks. IF you are using the test to determine whether or not to hold a certain swim WOD (i.e. whether it's safe enough to hold it), do you factor into the decision the fact that Spealler is going to annihilate everyone and that Khalipa is going to come dragging in dead f___ing last? Or, do you somehow try to overlook that and only consider whether or not everyone can safely finish the WOD? Even if you do try to overlook Spealler's obvious dominance, you know you're going to get accused of favoriting him and singling Khalipa out to lose. I think the wise move here for all of the athletes is to only go so far as to demonstrate that it's safe to put you in the pool but not to reveal just how good or bad you are. - Mark |

Re: Swim test in the games
Well as an Ex-Competitive swimmer, this is great news for me as like others with swimming backgrounds we have a proper advantage.
Ever since starting crossfit i have serectly wished i had done Olympic lifting as a kid to have a better foundation. Overall i think it is a bold move by HQ as people will agree swimming is very skilled based and teaching an adult who has very little swimming experience upto a standard to compete would be a hard task. But as a sport it needs to evolve and incorporate more diverse modalities,so lets start thinking outside the box.Make room for a pool at your local box ![]() ![]() |

![]() Even if there is a swim test it doesn't necessarily mean that the games will
involve actual swimming as such, being such a specialist movement the organizers will know that not everyone can swim. What I can picture will happen is that the may have to carry weights in the pool (a bit like strong man contests) such as carrying a weight from one side to the other etc etc.. sure the athletes can swim there weights, but athletes who don't know how to swim can still stay competitive through wading or aqua jogging etc. But of course thats just IMO. ![]() |
