bounding box jump technique
I know Matt Chan, K-star and Carl had excellent videos about this subject, but does anyone else have any good tips?
Thanks |

Re: bounding box jump technique
What do you mean by tips? Bounding is actually a potent exercise...I would start with bounding hops across the floor for a few sets...Then work up to boxes in series.
When we do "senders" we mix box height across the floor, I learned this from Coach Sommer at Gymnastic Bodies. http://youtu.be/pTUn2-sF3Hw (WFS)...this would be a more advanced series obviously...begin without objects and simply hop across the floor...I personally wouldn't start with bounding for box jumps for too many reps initially. |

Re: bounding box jump technique
I think he means having the pause of the box jump at the top rather than at the bottom. i.e. rebounding at the bottom.
My best advice is to ease into it slowly - and try to touch your heels on each rebound. Focusing on the edge of the box where I want to land helps me prevent missing. |

Yes, Joey you are correct. Thanks for the advice and much apprecatied. I"m practicing on a 45 plate and so far I think I'm getting the hang of it.
Thanks all! Jack |

Re: bounding box jump technique
Your arms are very important here too. Learn to time your arm swing with the jumps ... back on the way down then up and in towards your center on the way up - it initiates your rebound. Watch your knees too - out not in (both up and down).
Even do it with your 45# plate. Over swing those arms. Try to land light too. For a box, I keep my chest and head up, but do try to keep my chest over the edge of the box on teh way down. It seems to help me greatly (I'm 6'2" 230# so it may be a big-guy thing .. I don't know). It feels like I have a very slight fall/lean forward as I jump off the box. |
