No grains/no sugar and sleep problems?

Just wondering if it's normal to experience sleep problems while on the no grains/no sugar challenge? I find that I am a much lighter sleeper and wake up at least once every night. Thanks for your help in advance!

Re: No grains/no sugar and sleep problems?

Hi Maya,

Actually, I found just the opposite. Even though I don't get a lot of sleep (avg. 5 hrs/night), without grains and sugars I now sleep like a rock and have more sustaining energy.

Have you changed anything else in your diet/activity that may be causing this?

Really? No, I haven't changed anything in terms of exercise. I CF 2-3 times per week and do kendo (martial arts) about 4-5 times per week. Hmmm...maybe it's just the initial stages and my body is just adjusting?

I think that may be it. I've read that some people have an adjustment period. I'm sure this could manifest itself in different ways.

Hopefully you can stick with it. I know I've never felt better.

By the way, welcome

I'll keep at it and see if there's any change over the next few weeks. Despite the sleep issues, I'm loving the energy and the way I feel! By the way, I heart this forum

Unless you are replacing the calories from another source you may just be waking up from hunger.

Re: No grains/no sugar and sleep problems?

I've been having this same problem. (I'm up right now and it's 4 in the F**king morning!).

problem is... I've been paleo since July last year. If it's an adjustment period that's a hell of a long one.

I'm feeling frustrated. I often wake up hungry. The replacement of calories seems to be plausible because I often wake up feeling hungry (could it be just that I've been fasting for several hours?)

I usually go to bed around 9-10. and wake up from 2:30 - 3:00 almost every night. Occasionally, I sleep soundly. But this sleepless pattern has persisted.

The instances of sleeplessness seem to have increased with the addition of a pre-workout caffeine drink in the mornings.

The connection seems obvious but the hunger involved seems to play a part as well.

I guess the first and most obvious step is to cut out the stimulants.

could it be a caffeine issue?

I was experiencing this last week -
turned out to be a bit of overreaching (I think). I doubt that's it in your case - just my two cents.

The answer would seem to be in your post. More food and less caffeine.
