I'm looking for some good written information/articles/advice concerning fat loss in general and for women specifically (I don't know if there's a difference). A friend of mine came to me looking for advice, and although I've heared/read things here and there, I never had a weight problem myself and therefor I have no experience in the field, and don't know where to start. I mean obviously it's diet and exercise, but I need specifics.. I want to give her some written information for her to read and get educated on the topic before she starts to work on her goals..
Anything you have will be greatly appreciated!

I like this article for two reasons:
1) it dispells a lot of myths about "cardio" and the "fat burning zone" etc.
2) it works.
If you used this as a base and did all your further research/reading off the concepts in this article, you'd be well on your way to success.

its not in article form but the following might be useful (if over simplified a bit)
In my experience working with people who need/want to lose weight these are the Keys to Fat Loss:
1) Burn more calories than you take in.
2) thats the only way to lose weight other than water weight (ie cutting for wrestling etc)
So either decrease caloric intake - eat less - (rough estimate is a deficit of 500 Kcal per day = loss of 1 lbs per week)
Or increase Energy consumption - exercise more - it is not necessarily the # of Kcal burned during exercise(although this does of course effect total energy consumption for the day), but the effect of the exercise over the entire day (as in why the "fat burning" zone is crap)
OR even better - asuming weight loss is the goal -, eat less and exercise more
This means that technically one could lose weight eating only chocolate icecream, as long as they ate significantly fewer calories than they expended every day - they would just most likely die of malnutrition if they kept up such a horrendous nutrition program =) Inversely, a person can also gain weight even if they are eating extremely healthy meals. If they consistently eat more calories than they burn they will inveriably gain weight.
There are other factors such as stress, sleep, etc. which also play a role in weight loss, but basically, if a person takes in fewer calories than you burn consistently they will lose weight 99.99% of the time.
