Should I make this purchase, or hold off for bumpers

http://www.amazon.com/Powerline-PPR2.../dp/B000VLRVSC

Linnk above is work friendly safe..or whatever the term is.

Looking to get a few toys for the garage, for days that I can't make it to the gym. Found an add on Kijiji for this power rack plus 300# of iron/oly bar for $550, now assuming I can barter the price down a bit, would It be a good starter purchase, or should I just wait until I can afford the $717 for the rogue bar and 210# bumper set, and go weld up a rack for free.

Unless you can get the rack and weights for $200-$250, I'd wait.

I say just wait... it'll be more worth it in my opinion.

Actually the exchange rate between the US and Canada has almost reached 1:1. But I would first save what you got till you could buy the bumpers as steel weights do not retain their value and what you may pay $1/lb for new will no get much more than .40/lb. Bumpers because of shipping tend to retain more of their value.

I'm in Canada as well and you can definitely get better deals on used racks.

Also, in the pic the rack looks really short. It'd be nice to be able to press over head when needed.

I'd go with bumper plates and a bar I could drop first, and practice dumping the back squat.

I say build some wooden squat stands and and then go see Kim at Rogue Canada, he's right in Edmonton and with the exchange at 1:1 you will get some good deals on a set of bumpers and a bar, buy 160lbs and a bar and do the rest w/ iron weights. I wish I was close enough to drive and pick up, shipping is a killer !

Evan

Rogue Canada is just off of Gateway and 34th. Save on shipping and pick it up directly there!

Re: Should I make this purchase, or hold off for bumpers

Picked up a few things already from the Rogue warehouse here in Edmonton, just wondered where I should start with the weights, as I think iron plates are inevitable, mixed in with bumpers.
