Under the same line of reasoning that weight belts weaken muscles, I decided to buy these shoes
(safe site, brand of shoe)

They are without the doubt the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. They do not provide support as that is the idea (feel as if you're barefoot), but isn't a good thing, since it will help strengthen all those muscles around your ankles?

I had a pair of those early last year, true they are comfortable but if you plan to run in them they wont last long. I went with a pair of asics gel after that and they are perfect!

i alwasy wondered if they would lead to injury running in the city (ie. on pavement and concrete). i think the theory is good behind them, but not realistic in an urban setting.

I have been reading all the hullaballoo about nike frees, so I went to the local nike "outlet" store to check them out. They're cool and lightweight, and reminded me very much of my old cross country racing spikes (minus the spikes of course). The CC shoes rarely lasted more than a season, even when I only ran in them in competition, so I am guessing nike frees would melt quickly in a 20-30 mile per week running environment.

I developed shin splints from using the nike frees. I'm flat footed and they provided no arch support, so they took me out for about 2 or 3 months.

Just something to watch out for.

Great running shoe...but they don't last.

I got a pair of the trail running ones...the suede started getting gaping holes in it. I ended up returning them.
