It has evolved loads since then and you are only seeing a tiny bit of it. It has loads of metcon, kbs and running and it defo improves performance. I'm much fitter, stronger and have more endurance than when I did pure crossit wods. Nothing against Crossfit. I love it and love this community, this training just worked better for me! Maybe it's my bodytype but Crossfit just made me skinny. Paul is RKC level 2 certified and is actually running an RKC at the moment in Ireland and has the legendary Pavel over here with him. Functional muscle is a big part of it. I defo would not do pure aesthetic training. It's a complete waste of time.

Yes diet control and nutrition advice are part of it.

It's not your body type, that's pretty much what Crossfit does for most people. The program sounds cool. Glad it worked so well for you.
