Re: Recommended barbell in Australia

Will do.

I wonder where their barbells are from and if they're any different to the 1500 lb rated bars from Gym and fitness (WFS) and other online shops like that.

Ask them anything you want to know.

I know Steve and Kevin from powerlifting, golly, 20 years ago!
I'm currently sitting just down the road from their sales room, office and gym

They're not real fast to reply to emails but they are very genuine people who really care about supplying quality equipment.

The gear they make in their workshop is what they invented the word "solid" to describe.
Their GHD in particular looks like they expect the zoo to buy them to be used be elephants. Two at a time.

I can't comment on the particular bars you're talking about, but I can vouch for the guys. They won't mess you 'round.

Hey thanks for that. I sent them an email a few days ago. No response yet but I'm not in a hurry so it's all good.

Re: Recommended barbell in Australia

This seems like a good place to post info on what I'll be purchasing this weekend. I've done quite a lot of research over the last few months and this is the best I've found in Australia.

all links WFS

500kg rated (29mm) Taishan bar & 140kg bumpers + 27kg iron from fitness-shop.com.au (right down the bottom of this page). $1300 + $100 delivery to Melbourne
http://www.fitness-shop.com.au/index...sort=3a&page=3

Squat stands from hart, 250kg capacity, which is heaps for my needs atm - $169 + ~$20 delivery
https://www.hartsport.com.au/ishop/stock/item/6-369

If anybody's just after pairs of bumpers, rather than a whole set, hartsport is the cheapest, but I cannot vouch for the quality of any of these products yet.

Hope this helps people further down the line

-Steve

Oh. Well you might have to give Stevo a nudge. Great guy, not the best at prompt replies to emails.

Or if you're having any problems that my having a chat with him might help with, post or PM or contact me any way you want with the details you're after and I'll wander down and catch him.

Re: Recommended barbell in Australia

i suspect that they are going to get a couple of emails from Oz, I've passed the website on to three of the trainers at the gym I go to... they've been hunting for good olympic bars, bumpers, squat stands for a while...

oh craig... I just realised that you're the administrator on brandx crossfit WOD forum!!! good job!!!

Yes, that's me. It's quite a hoot that a guy sitting in NZ can be an admin on a forum operated by a gym in a small town in Southern California. And anyway, all I do is yell at people to not make a mess, it's others who do all the great work making the forum the friendly and helpful place that it is.

As I said, anything I can do to help, let me know. It helps you, it helps CrossFit and it puts business Steve's way. It's all good.

Steve,

Thanks for the links. I thought I'd found all the places that sold bars/bumpers in Oz but hadn't seen www.fitness-shop.com.au (wfs). I've already got my bumpers but would love to hear what you think of the bar.

Hartsport started stocking them after I'd already bought mine.

Another place selling Taishan is http://www.universalselfdefence.com....ning_set/452/1 (wfs) whose prices seem OK. Haven't tried them myself.

Regards,
Jeremy
