Rogue S-1 stand or York FTS Squat Stands?

Rogue S-1 stand or York FTS Squat Stands?

I've worked with the Yorks at our last box, stable, pretty good footprint, kinda hated the adjustment mechanism... anyone with a glaring preference of one over the other?

All the help is humbly accepted and greatly appreciated.

Hey Chef, you can see some thoughts in the thread below. It's for the Wright Rack but they talk about York vs Rogue there too.

Re: Rogue S-1 stand or York FTS Squat Stands?

I have the original S-1 and think it's great - much more stable and easy to adjust than the York, which I've used a couple of times.

The new version of the S1 looks even better - closer spacing, and they'll soon be releasing spotter arms, which are the only thing I wish my current rack had (unfortunately, I contacted Rogue and found out the new arms are not compatible with the old racks). The spotter arms aren't listed on the site yet, but you can see them in some of the photos for the S-2 racks. (WFS)

I had contacted Rogue and asked about the safeties for the S-1, they told me they should be available next month.

Re: Rogue S-1 stand or York FTS Squat Stands?

Rogue's S-1 looks like a huge improvement over older squat stand designs with the easily adjustable J-cups, West Side hole patterns and at a very reasonable price. I too was wondering about the spotter arms that I saw in their photos but not currently listed as an option. When these become available, I think the S-1 will become the new gold standard for squat racks with safety spotters in its price range. This setup looks much more streamlined than my Ironmind squat rack and safety spotters and at a much better price.

Looking at Rogue's photos of the spotter arms, they look like they will be more than adequate for bench presses. Anyone have any idea if they are large enough to spot for squats as well?

Re: Rogue S-1 stand or York FTS Squat Stands?

Rogue's stands are way more durable than Yorks and much simpler to use! No pins, no plastic, super easy to adjust and pretty much bomb proof! I used Yorks for over a year at a previous gym and over that time we had so many issues with them. I had seen the Rogue ones at a different gym so when it came to opening my own box I wasn't hesitant to spend the extra $ (at the time I could get the Yorks for $190 and the Rogues for $400).

The Rogue's are considerably heavier, but that gives them a much more sturdy feel when you are racking a 1 rm Squat. I never really used the safety bars on the Yorks and in fact I think they were removed an nobody noticed for a long time. Besides, when you know how to dump a failed squat, there isn't really a reason to use them.

Another vote for the Rogue stand. They are bomb proof. My has received 6 months of daily affiliate use/abuse and still looks new.

York FTS is commonly mentioned by our members as their least favorite piece of gear in the gym. Relatively well built, but very poorly designed.

Rogue is the way to go.

Re: Rogue S-1 stand or York FTS Squat Stands?

David,

I don't know if you've made your decisions but based on what everyone said here I just bought the S1.

I ordered on Tuesday (1/18) and it was on my doorstep Thursday (1/20). The construction is top notch and it's one solid squat rack. I was accidentally shipped two of the same side j-cups but sent an e-mail Thursday night. Bill Henniger responded immediately. He's shipping a new set of j-cups to me today. That kind of service reinforces the decision I made and I would not hesitate to recommend not only the stands but Rogue Fitness for all your CrossFit needs.
