Starting For newcomers to the CrossFit methodology

still sore... extra rest day? or work through?

question: if i am still a bit sore from a previous WOD, should i still do the next WOD that uses the same muscle groups? i realize that the WODs are staggered so as to rotate through the various muscle groups, but at times I am not fully recovered. for example, today i should be doing the split jerk 1 reps, but my shoulders are still not fully recovered from the 21-15-9 HSPU, dip, push up day and "murph"

obviously there is a sliding scale here - if i was RIDICULOUSLY sore i would not work out. however, is it normal/expected to still be a little tender/sore pretty much all the time? in other words, is it expected to never really be 100% fully recovered and always be just a little tender?

any thoughts are appreciated!

Only you can judge this. But IMO, generally if you have to question whether you need to rest, you should rest, unless you are under 25yo!

However, even if you do decide to take it easy, I would still at least work on doing the split jerk with light weight for form. Split jerk is a complicated movement which we can all use extra practice on.

If you know your workout will suffer because of the soreness don't do it IMO.

As you get more experience you will be able to judge better.

If there's any doubt and you're new I say rest. Very easy to overwork yourself
