Fundraising Ideas

CrossFit Community,

I'd like to throw a question out there and see if you have any good ideas for a Fundraiser I'd like to do with my box. I am a student/affiliate manager and the entire affiliate consists of university students. We'd like to raise some money for a cause, any help is appreciated!

I know that lots of boxes participate in Fight Gone Bad and Barbell4Boobs, are there any others out there? Any new ones? Any that you'd like to see happen? I'm open to ideas!

Roll Tide,

Erik

Re: Fundraising Ideas

The Wounded Warrior Project is an awesome organization and a fantastic cause. I am sure you can find support for them in your friends and potential contributors.

You can brainstorm with your fellow athletes on what you want to do regarding a workout, and how people can contribute:
$1 for every burpee you do in a ME burpee WOD for 5 minutes...
$0.01 per pound lifted in a CFT or Oly Total.
flat contribution just for doing SOMETHING...

Have fun with it.

Re: Fundraising Ideas

We have an annual fundraiser we do called Beat the Streets (w/f safe) that we run to raise money for Steve's Club National Program to bring CrossFit to at-risk and underserved teenagers in cities across America. Last year, we had over 40 CF affiliate participate to help us raise money for our National Program and to help affiliates/individuals start youth clubs of their own.

Re: Fundraising Ideas

I love the Wounded Warriors and Steve's Beat the Streets ideas! Both are awesome causes--Steve's Club does GREAT work!

If you want a few more ideas, here's a link to a blog post I wrote earlier this year listing some charitable organizations run by CrossFitters--some, like Steve's Club, are well-known, and others may be new to you.

Good luck!

Re: Fundraising Ideas

I'm glad that helped, Erik. If you really want in-depth info about some of those organizations, check out their stories in my book, The Power of Community: CrossFit and the Force of Human Connection:

Re: Fundraising Ideas

We have a new one that we're just getting off the ground in Canada. It'd be amazing if it went North-American wide!

It's a tribute WOD in honour of a man who was killed when he was ***-bashed on April 17th of this year. We're slowly picking up steam: www.raymondmay17.com.

It's on May 17th (the International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia).

Still working on some sponsorship stuff & emailing with lots of affiliates -- it would be great to have more on board!
