Co-lease

We have a member that is a former D1 Strength and Conditioning coach. He is interested doing some personal training and small group training on the side at our gym. This would be his own clients. Have any of you dealt with this? I was just wondering how it worked out and how we should charge him. Do we charge him rent or a % off his sales?

Re: Co-lease

We have done this in the past. We collected all the money, and paid them a %.

If you're not going to be in charge of collecting the money, I would suggest charging a rental rate/hr.

Re: Co-lease

It was a few years ago. I can't remember the exact %; maybe 33%, and capped it at a reasonable amount.

If I were to charge/sf; I'd probably charge them 20% more than my rate. That number would also need to take into account whether they are using my equipment, etc.

Re: Co-lease

For Personal trainers we've done a flat rate of $20/hour for 1-2 clients and $40/hour for 3-4 (I don't want bigger groups than that) OR a flat monthly fee of $800 for unlimited PT (less than 4 clients at a time). It's worked out well for us.

Re: Co-lease

Who are the clients he will be training?
Whos equipment will he be using?
Who owns the building he will be using?
Who pays the bills for electricity, water, taxes?
and so on and so on.

YOU......

So to me this sounds as if this person can bring clients into your box thus you should own these clients.

You take the payment and he gets paid based on nr of people and time, but also give him the incentive that the more clients the more he can make - its a win win for both parts.

Its a big world and if you are not making any money then he will have nowhere to train these clients.

Thats my thought on it...
