Chuck Taylor's?

I've seen them recommended in various places for weight/power -lifting. I understand they have a flat sole but do they also have a hard sole (to be good for squats, particularly)?

My gym's owner wasn't too thrilled to see me squat shoe-less (really, just that I forgot to re-dawn my shoes to put more plates on the bar.. haha), and I thought of springing for some Adidas weightlifting shoes, as I'm currently doing SS for a bit. However, I kind of feel that the weightlifting shoes would be inappropriate for crossfit once I get back into it (doing SS to help do things as RXed), since I don't think running/sprinting/box jumps would be the greatest thing for the expensive weightlifting shoes, even though they'd be superior to my current shoe for weightlifting. Also.. I'm a poor starving college student, and saving ~110 on shoes would be nice

Note: I don't belong to a globo gym, it's a small gym that's a little more than half "real" gym, less than half nautalis, some spin bikes/tred mills, and a half basketball court. It has a lifting platform, too

Re: Chuck Taylor's?

The chucks work for almost anything crossfit. The only thing I don't use mine on are the longer runs. The 400m runs feel fine to me in the chucks, and I love the way the squats and deads feel in them.

Re: Chuck Taylor's?

I'm a poor college student as well so I know your pain! The shoes I would recommend are the ones from payless the champion brand shoes if not the chucks. I scored a pair of chucks for 9$ at marshall's and thats what I use, only thing they are sea foam green plaid. But eh who cares for the color when your lifting.

Re: Chuck Taylor's?

I prefer high top Vans, but they are a lot more expensive than the Chuck's. i like them because the sole is more pliable.

All the best,
Arden

The entire (almost) elite power lifting community use them and swear by them.

Re: Chuck Taylor's?

Thanks everyone for the comments, that reaffirmed my decision to buy a pair, and did so today in preparation for tomorrows SS lifting They didn't have black but a pair of low top brownish ones were on sale at a shoe place in my local(ish) mall, yay.

Re: Chuck Taylor's?

I have a pair of Chuck's and never worked out in them before. I usually just squat/deadlift with just my socks on. I get weird looks sometimes, but it is so damn comfortable! I also have a pair of New Balance, which are the only shoe I can find in a 'wide'. Maybe I will give the Chuck's a try!

Re: Chuck Taylor's?

I would like my money back spent on my chucks to apply to the adistars I bought.

Re: Chuck Taylor's?

I haven't tried the Chucks, but the Adidas Sambas (cleatless soccer shoe) work for me, and are more readily available where I am.

Re: Chuck Taylor's?

I spent 11 years on three lifts, lived in one pair of chucks after another. Highly recomended.
