just saw Kelly's post of 8.18 re TCS meet. This is for everyone out there. Lacking something like the TCS, try Balance Bar sprint adventure racing. need a team of 3 and a mountain bike. they provide the inflatable kayaks for the paddle. main events are a 5 to 8 mile run(this might be split), a 10 to 12 mile mountain bike and a 2 to 2 and a half mile paddle(two boats). What makes these races so cool is the mystery events that are sprinkled thruout. couple of times started the race waist deep in water carrying one teammate suspended from a 2x4 which was on our shoulders. anaerobic blowout at the outset of a 20+mile race. others include marine corps high hurdles, mud crawls, heavy sandbags thru waist deep mud, cargo net climbs with bike, slippery slopes, the 12 foot wall at the end. one year had to run 5 miles with each of us maintaing a grip with one hand on a rubber donut about 6" in diameter. this throws off your stride.these races are great fun, go to for more info. pullpu challenge is great, but crossfit is all about functional fitness;these events test you across a wide spectrum and again, are a BLAST.
