New York City -- split a grassfed animal with me!

I'm looking to buy large quantities of meat from a grass pasture farm somewhere in upstate NY. I don't have a car, so will have it shipped to my apartment.

It's cheaper if you buy in bulk rather than by cut, but I don't have the freezer space to store even a quarter of a cow. So I'm looking for someone who would be willing to split the price and the animal with me, maybe even on a regular basis.

We can negotiate the farm, the amount, and the animal. I'm open to beef, pork, goat, lamb, chicken, and turkey. Cheese and eggs too.

These threads make me really appreciate living in an area that these things are so easy to come by.

3 hours away isn't that bad. You can make it a weekend trip.

Shane,

I don't know if this is possible or practical, but here's an idea. Hawthorne Valley Farm is an amazing organic/biodynamic farm located in Columbia county. When I lived in the city, I know they came down for the Union Square farmers' markets and perhaps others as well. If don't remember them having any meat at the farmers' market, but they have it at their farm store and if they're driving down to NYC anyway, maybe they would be willing to bring some down at no or minimal additional cost. Just an idea.

Re: New York City -- split a grassfed animal with me!

Shane, I just split a 1/2 cow with a friend of mine, and didn't think I'd have enough room to put it in my freezer, so he's keeping it all at his house in a big chest freezer. Well, I took maybe 1/3 of my part (each of us got 1/4 cow) home, and realized with some work, you probably could fit 1/4 cow in a regular freezer.... but you'd have no room for anything else lol

Just an FYI.

By the way... the sight of 1/2 a cow is glorious. Our 1/2 cow had 65 ~1lb ground beef portions, 12 filets, 20 NY Strips among other things.

Did they cut it up for you into edible portions? Did you have to pay an extra processing fee for that?
