Re: Why do you train?

back in the dark ages i began training as a lot of young men do; to get bigger in order to attract favourable attention from the girls without having to do as much talking, and to ward off trouble from other young fellows by displaying my size and apparent strength. Couple this with a heap of tattooing and i thought i had a recipe for a lifetime of getting laid and avoiding physical confrontation.
But a few encounters with other young men who were not bluffed by the muscles and tatts and the subsequent ***-whoopings that resulted made me want to put a bit of substance under the style.
Enter boxing which progressed into muay thai which progressed into Crossfit.
Now, as a personal trainer, i have to be able demonstrate capability in a wide range of physical function and personal pride dictates that i set a fine example of both function and form to my clients.
But in a nutshell, i like to be able to do whatever i want, whenever i want, and to be ready for any eventuality.

Re: Why do you train?

All of the above: I love the challenge, day in, day out. Looking at the training schedule, thinking "crap", deciding to take on the challenge, kick it's *** and move on.

I enjoy realizing that I have weaknesses, identifying them and making them better. Move on.

I want to be the 90yo still working in the yard, enjoying life, playing catch with great grandkids.....not waiting for someone to push my wheelchair to dinner, tie my shoes and put me to bed.

I don't want to get beat by my students....game on! They don't think that a 32yo teacher can still compete. My response, BRING IT?

I have a new favorite thought/quote: YOU SAY IMPOSSIBLE...I SAY CHALLENGE

Crossfit has changed my life for the better and the Kool Aid only gets sweeter.

Re: Why do you train?

Because my 6 1/2 year old likes to be thrown as high as possible. I need to be strong enough to do it.

On vacation I was 1 arm pressing and throwing my kid and my nephews, it felt great when other kids would ask their fathers to do the same and they couldn't. Being the cool dad is a good thing and is why I train!!!

Oh and being a former fat guy- 70 lbs heavier- I can NEVER let that happen again!

Re: Why do you train?

I do it to keep up with my son on the playground. He is a 6 y/o who self taught himself how to do a hspu because doing a headstand was boring as he put it. As Steve put it to be the 'cool dad' that can toss children into the sky.

Recently I have been using CrossFit to help fight depression since I lost my wife on 5/5/2008 to cancer.

Re: Why do you train?

I do it because...

It makes me feel alive

I want to be a woman who is not afraid to look strong and actually be strong...

I'm a competitor

And...I want to look good

All things, I'm guessing. It's a good mindset as long as you maintain a moral compass.

That poor soul used to be me, sleepwalking through the globo doing chest/tri/shoulders. Now I suffer a WOD like it's death, but damn does it feel good when I'm done.

Re: Why do you train?

Yeah my written performance is irrelevant to the feeling pride when I lay in my puddle of sweat knowing that I gave it everything I have. CF has made me a hell of a lot tougher.
