BBest mp3/ipod/music players while working out

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for peoples' reviews on their experience with different mp3 players.

I've gone through about 3 different ones (forget exactly which ones cause I usually get ****ed and throw them out when they cut out in the middle of an awesome workout), and all of them only last about 2 or 3 months and then stop working. I usually clip them onto my shorts waistband, since I don't like it strapped on my arm like some people do it...but I'm open to try it again if it makes them last longer.

Just looking for peoples' advice on which ones last the longest. I'm thinking of maybe the iPod shuffle, but want to get peoples' opinions first.

Thanks!!!

I have been using the Ipod Shuffle for running for years. For Crossfit I prefer just to have music playing but if that is not an option go for the Shuffle. Just be aware that with any player the head phone cord could get in the way depending on the movements you are doing.

I like the ipod shuffle because it's cheap, simple, small and clips on without having to buy anything else.

I've lost several and broken one, so I just keep an eye on the local craigslist ads and when I see one nearby for about $20 I get it. I usually have one in reserve because I know I'll lose or break them.

The sansa clip is way easy to use and pretty cheap and doesn't use itunes. I love it.

I have been using ipod shuffles since gen1. They work well for exercise, but they are expensive and they do die eventually.

I had an older shuffle (can't remember which gen, had all the buttons right on it instead of having to use the headphones) which worked wonderfully but I lost it. Over the summer I got the new shuffle and it broke on me within 2 months. Shuffles are great while they last but they seem to have a very short life span.

I've owned multiple iPods (a nano, mini, a classic, two iPhones) and a Zune. If you're looking for something to clip on and go, the Sansa Clip is a superior and more economical alternative to the Shuffle. It has a GUI, so you can actually choose playlists, songs, artists, etc. Includes FM radio & recorder. Really...the thing can't be beat. Pair it with "Media Monkey" music manager and you're set. They pop up refurbed for super cheap on sites like woot.com and others from time-to-time. If you're patient, you can virtually steal one.

Come to think of it, I think the sansa clip was the one that I've had 2 of. Both stopped working about 3 or 4 months into having them. Do you think the iPod shuffle has about the same service life or longer?

I have a shuffle I've been using on and off for years. I think they're fine.

The good thing about a shuffle as a gym ipod is the LACK of features. Just clip it on and hit play. No messing around with trying to find a certain song/album/whatever. I don't know how people can workout with an iphone strapped to their arm. So distracting.

Another vote for the Sansa Clip here.

I have the older original model and the newer one that takes the mini-SD cards. Never a single problem with either.

Maybe try a silicone protector, they help with bumps, drops and keeping sweat out.
