I have never tried protein powders and am wondering if the powder is better than eating protein in the form of chicken or fish etc... or why it might be better.
Also when is the best time to include protein powders in a diet, after a workout? pre workout?

IF you're gonna use it, best times:

-first thing in the morning to break the fast, and rid yourself of cortisol
-pre and post workout you want a quick, easy to digest form of protein available

Thats about it.

Remember, whey has been shown to be pretty good at spikeing insulin.

Articfically produced protein supplements will never ever replace the value of fresh animal protein. You can't beat nature.

I am really skeptical of whey, it seems so gimmicky. I agree with Greg.

That is why it is called a supplement and not a replacement. Solid food should always be your first choice, but protein powder certainly has its place in modern-day diets. As Joseph said, morning, pre and post workout are the best times to digest whey powder. There is also casein powder, which is recommended right before bedtime as a slow digesting protein source.
