Exercises Movements, technique & proper execution

I've been working on my kip and wondering -- do you use your thumbs, or use a 4-finger grip?

Also, I notice on the videos that people are typically gripping somewhat wider than shoulder width -- is that the preferred CF style?

I usually wrap the thumbs (prevents the hand rotating so much and adding to blisters) and place the hands a bit wider than shoulder width. Slightly wider allows for more back recruitment IMO but preserves most of the ROM. If the hands go overly wide the humerous tends to ram into the shoulder socket in a nasty way preventing the use of the back musculature in storing/releasing energy.

I go no thumbs, converts to the "real" world more...pulling yourself over a wall or into a window, etc. Try both.

I only have a ledge to work with so I stick with no thumbs. This of course makes kipping a fair bit harder to do... though that has more to do with the lack of bar then the finger placement.

most people use a little wider than shoulder width grip but do what YOU feel is more comfortable or just switch it up
