left elbow is hurting

Hi

My left elbow has started hurting after a training session a month ago, it is not hurting as much as in the first couple days but there is still pain. There was no sudden pain or a pop sound that caused the injury. It started almost like muscle pain next day.

I put a picture below. The pain is a long the lines between the arrows. I have pain in reverse curl positions ( example lowering the bar from clean position, also some pain in middle of pullups)

The pain is bearable if I do a long warm up before the training session. Can you give me any ideas what could be the problem?

Thanks

Re: left elbow is hurting

I would guess tendinitis. If that is the case I would make sure to rest it before it gets worse and to ice immediately after working out. I had a bad case of tendinitis but in a different spot from what you are describing and I kept going to try and "push through it" but that was the worst thing I could have done as it took a lot longer to heal.

Re: left elbow is hurting

There is no swelling at the beginning or later. There was no bruise either. I was looking at the web for tennis/golf elbow. It looks similar.

Are there any stretches that I should do before crossfit exercises?
My recovery has been very slow though, I haven't exercised for two weeks because of flu. I went training this Sunday, the pain in elbow was still there.

Re: left elbow is hurting

I am hardly the expert on it but what I did was I iced it a couple times a day until the inflammation went down and then started lightly stretching my forearms. The thing that is apparently tricky about these issues is that there is still inflammation after it starts feeling better so sometimes you have to rest longer than you think.

Re: left elbow is hurting

I agree it is most likely a brachioradialis or biceps tendonitis. Stretching and avoiding pain is the key, personally I had one that took 2-3 months to go away but te good news is that it does go away if you let it.

Re: left elbow is hurting

Sean, what do you think of eccentric exercises for tendinitis? I have been reading good things and am going to at least try it out as I am a bit limited in what I can do as long as this rears its head.

Re: left elbow is hurting

I realized I can still do everything with an elbow support band

I dont feel pain with that. I am avoiding doing anything hurts. I will update when it heals completely.

Re: left elbow is hurting

after rest and heat the best results I've had on myself and other lifters I help is to start doing curls once a week. hammer & reverse curls with slow eccentric for 3 -4 sets of 10-12. give it a shot. it'll be uncomfortable at first but over the weeks the injury will subside and it'll get stronger! if it gets worse then....stop, duh.
good luck
