Overhead Squats and heel plates

Hi,

If there's one thing I've learned from Crossfit it is that in a lot of the movements there are so many different body parts working together that it's often difficult to pinpoint the limiting factor.

I have been working on my shoulder flexibility for a while due to me not being able to overhead squat. I do have a tight thoracic and it is something that I am working on to reduce, but today I put a couple of 2 inch plates under my heels and was able to get down into an overhead squat, and do a few sott presses.

Now I didn't want to jump to the conclusion that it was just poor ankle flexibility but wondered what elements might be contributing to me being able to OHS with the plates and not without?

Any help or info greatly appreciated.

You're not "jumping to conclusions" if you have proof to back them up. Ankle flexibility is at least part of the problem.

That said, not being able to see your form, nobody can really give you a definite full answer.
