Of the WOD's i've done.. so far i'll have to say that Fran hurts the worst. Anyone have any comments as to why ? Is it the amount of muscles used, stress of holding the bar, the pushing and then the pullups ?

I'm scared everytime before that workout.

I think it is the power output per second...95# moved the length of your front squat range + push press up...45 time PLUS the same basic path for your 45 body weight pull ups...in whatever your time is...pretty crazy Sh*&(...

She scares me too but I love her best. :-) Although my last attempt was at 65# not 95#.

Join the club. When I see Fran come up in a WOD, I start getting butterflies around 12pm. I train at 5pm. LOL!

Like Laura mentioned, one of the journals discussed the power output during Fran and it's insane.

I second what Anthony says.

Sometimes you just get that WOD dread...that only makes things worse. Usually it's gone after I warmup, otherwise it's butterfly city.

Fran is the distilled essence of crossfit (IMHO). It requires maximum output from your major pushing and pulling muscle groups over a timeline that is short enough to sprint through.

It has something for everyone. A big guy like me (230-240#) can chuck out 21x95# thrusters unbroken, but then I have to pull my big badonkadonk over the bar 21x.

Now that I'm down to a sub 5 time I don't dread Fran the way I used to, I've had prostate exams that lasted longer. But I certainly never look forward to it. My time is as good as it's gonna get at the level I'm willing to train at, so now it's just a brief but intense discomfort followed by long time on the floor with a mouth that tastes like metal. What's that about anyway?

I know it saves your shoulders but you probably shouldn't be holding the bar in your mouth during the thrusters.
