Re: Front squats vs back squats

Post a pic/video here or in a new thread so we can see bar position and add suggestions about hand placement. Are you doing High Bar Back Squats or Low Bar Back Squats?

I'm confused as to whether this is mocking the guy who posted this, or impressed by a girl lifing these kinds of weights.

I got no clue whether the op is a guy or girl for the record.

I wondered the same.

Mike - If you're mocking the OP, could you kindly explain why?

Stephen, you don't necessarily have to grip super close, if that's what you're doing. It can be individualized.

Re: Front squats vs back squats

I have never had that problem with HBBS. With LBBS, I could see it maybe happening. Didn't happen for me though.

Re: Front squats vs back squats

Honestly, I didn't even know there were different types of back squats.

I would say that I do the HBBS the most... or when I do.

But like I said, most of the pain is in my shoulders and somewhat numbness in my arm from decreased blood flow.

Perhaps I'm holding the bar in a bad spot or too close together.

Re: Front squats vs back squats

Starting s * t * r * e * n * g * t * h is a great book that will tell you how to hold the bar.

Heavier weight does require you to actively use those muscles where the bar rests... I "push" the weight with my arms/hands up (@ 300+ I'm not lifting it off my shoulder) and actively engage those muscles, helping to reduce what is "resting" on my shoulders and creating a 'tight' place for them to rest.

Pic's and videos are best tho to combat this issue

When I ready the weight on my shoulders (proper position) I have a hard time getting my arms up to hold the bar. Now, my arms aren't necessarily large by any means, but I get an issue of arm and shoulder pain as well as what feels like decreased circulation in my arms after holding the position through the entire set.

Any advice as to what I may be doing wrong or what I can do to alleviate this? I'm game for both versions of the squat, but don't really like the pain and it distracts me from proper form (i think).
I was having trouble with the bar hurting across the back of my neck/traps too so I bought some foam tubing that they use on pipes from a hardware store to put on my barbell. I used one to fit the bar & a much bigger size to fit over the 1st peice of tubing for thicker padding. Problem solved.
