Has anyone successfully combined gymnastics and powerlifting?

I'm looking to build my core strength using gymnastics and my raw strength using powerlifting, any ideas?

What do you mean by core and raw strength?

Having a six-pack, but also being able to rip the arms off a gorilla.

Having a 'six pack' comes down to having a very low bodyfat percentage, which comes down to a very good diet. Abs are made in the kitchen, as the old saying goes.

Re: Has anyone successfully combined gymnastics and powerlifting?

It depends on what you mean by gymnastics. Do you just mean certain body weight movements or closer to a competitive gymnast? But in my experience you can do two things at once, especially if they do not counteract each other. For example, trying to be a competitive powerlifters and marathon runner would be a lot harder. The only things you would need to consider I think is keeping a low body weight to make it easier for yourself as it pertains to gymnastics. I have never seen a weekly template that combines the two but you might be able to find one via google....

Re: Has anyone successfully combined gymnastics and powerlifting?

depends on your goals. If you want to compete in powerlifting, then you need to revolve your training around that and get on a good program (5/3/1, mad cow, ect) and use some gymnastic movements as an assistance movement. If you want to get really good at one thing, you can't serve two masters....
