Angry Kicked out of college gym

Hey guys,
I don't know if this has been posted here on the main site yet or not--I did some looking around but couldn't find any mention of it. One of our college clients is attending school several hours away. While out of town, he does his CrossFit WODs at the universities fitness center.
Yup, you guessed it, the fitness director has deemed CrossFit too dangerous and disruptive to be allowed. Ben has made a couple posts on our site, and I was wondering if anyone could give some thoughts/advice on how he may be able to talk with the director to continue his workouts.

Links are W/FS

Thanks for any thoughts & advice. I know he isn't the first person this has happened to, so I was hoping someone might have some good advice.

That's a bummer. Maybe Ben can provide his director with some CF materials that support that there is safety in the the workouts done properly. All workouts are dangerous unless done safely. I'm sure we have good material in the community that can be shared. Good luck to Ben.

He can't just claim "it's dangerous" without justifying claims. You pay for that gym.

Unfortunately, they have good reason for not allowing you to bring in your own equipment or use theirs in significantly divergent ways from the norm. Pull-ups on the cable machine unfortunately will be grouped with unsafe and improper uses of equipment.

Go to the meeting and try to convince them that it's safe at least, beneficial at best. If they accept it as good, then maybe they'll officially adopt CF as okay in their gym and get some realistic equipment in.

Sounds like they're going to have to be diplomatic and work with these people to find a way to co-exist. Giving in to the urge to tell them that you think everything about them is a joke, as enjoyable as that may seem, will not help.

Aside from the GHD sit ups, what specifically was being referred to in terms of the dangerous outside equipment, improper use of equipment, and the whole 'making a spectacle' thing?

Probably O-lifts...I'm on my final warning at my gym for that.

Re: Kicked out of college gym

I smell bull manure at the Bre-X level.

The whole "group" training thing seems to being use conveniently. Guess they will be banning workout partners next. What next, banning a member because their girlfriend asked for help?

The whole "soliciting"' issue seems more like bullying people into getting a trainer. Guess they also deem a member asking a experienced member a training question soliciting next and bann them as well.

This whole thing sounds less like a safety issue and more like a issue of job protection.

most college gyms don't allow it...

one of the reasons I joined a gym (plus the school gym really isn't all that they CLAIM it to be!)

Show them this youtube video (w/fs) and then decide what's really more dangerous
