I just bought some rings and am wondering how to install them in my garage. First, my garage is below a bedroom (I live in a condo), so we're dealing with floor joists (sorry if this is incorrect...i'm crappy at construction lingo) and regular 2X4 framing on the walls. I'm envisioning just screwing in those eye (triangle-head)-bolts in two adjacent ceiling joists. Is this a good idea? Will there be too much vibration (especially when I kip)? How can I best distribute the load? What size should the bolts be? Will they support my weight (165lbs)? Does anyone have any experience in this? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I did this in my basement but used lag bolts through the joist not a screw into it. I felt the screw would lossen over time and someday... It works fine and I weigh 180.

Elliot, there is at least one thread on this very subject a few below yours. Worthwhile reading through and considering before asking the same question again. If for whatever reason the suggestions don't seem applicable to your situation or don't make sense maybe a more focused question would bring the answer you seek.

Cheers, kempie
