Though I've done it lots of times well before I ever heard of crossfit, along with lots more demanding plyo drills, I hate to say that I busted my Achilles tendon yesterday afternoon doing box jumps off an 18" box.

I was doing a modified version of one of the ladies - 60 pullups, 60 pushups, 60 situps, 60 box jumps. On one of the last box jumps, my left achilles failed and I went down in a heap. That kinda sucks.

Sorry to say I forgot to look at the clock when I was done. I know it wasn't too impressive, but being new to crossfit and trying to do these exercises at 8900' when you're used to sea level is really something.

All I got to say is that in the time I recover from my surgery, my ring work is going to be getting almost all my focus. Muscle up, here I come!

That sucks mate.

How long is the expected recovery time?
You just better hope you don't bugger a shoulder now or you'll be hooped *grin*, watch it on those muscle ups... they can put a beating down on you...

I am a little curious as to what the time was though...

Its a drag.
Popped my achilles mid-october. Surgery 4-days later. From all I can gather, I'm looking at 6-months to get back to average mobility. A year to get back to where I want to be. Find a good surgeon. On my 2nd cast now. Will be in a walking boot November 30th. Lots of pullups, ring work, dips bench presses, pistols, L-sits. Spent the first 2-weeks after surgery on my back with my foot elevated. Sandbag presses, medicine ball tosses, stretch band work, whatever you can think of. It does suck, but you have to be willing to adapt to the circumstances and realize that the rehab will take a long time.

You may not need surgery, depending if it's a partial or total tear. You might want to check these out:

My experience was as Lance described. Popped my Achilles on April 14th, 2000. Was playing softball; sprinted to gobble up a ground ball and never made it. It sucked. Long recovery, but eventually 100%.

5 day report:

Sun @ 1pm - popped my Achilles in Bogota, Colombia

Mon @ 4pm - saw my doc in Houston, TX

Tues @ 10am - saw the ortho doc (he's operated on a Chicago outfielder and a Houston Rocket, so I think he's OK)

Wed @ 7am - Surgery on the totally torn left achilles (I do have pictures of the surgery, by the way)

Thurs, on drugs all day - where am I, who are these people, and what is all this talk about a turkey?

Fri @ 3:30p - my aggies just lost, but a good showing against #2 texas

I've heard the same thing about recovery, six months to good mobility and a year to get back to where I was last week.

My crutches are my new best friend, my power rings will soon be my second-best friends. Now I need go build some paralettes so I can get to work on my L-sit.
