New to Paleo...critique my diet

Ok, so I am not new to crossfit, and have been following the main page since 2009 and on and off since 2008. With that being said, I have never really concentrated on my diet, but have recently decided to attempt to eat paleo w/dairy. I am using livestrong to track my daily intake and have been getting around 50% fat, 30% protein, and 20% carbs on a given day and around 2500 calories. My normal day consists of:

Morning Shake:
1 c milk
1 c mixed berries
1 c walnut/pecan/almond mix
1/2 banana

Breakfast:
2 eggs in butter
2 pieces of bacon

Lunch:
1 chicken breast or other meatap
2-3 servings of vegetables (asparagus, spinach, or other)

Snack:
1/2 cup sunflower/pumpkin kernel mix

Dinner:
1-2 servings meat (chicken, steak, pork, or fish)
2 servings vegetable
And maybe a handful of grapes

My stats of the top of my head:
Deadlift- 425lbs
Squat- 335lbs
Press- 175lbs
Fran- 3:30
Filthy 50- 24 min
FGB- 397
Cindy- 21 rds

I am 6' and weigh in right now at 205lbs. My goal is to get a bit leaner (hopefully around the 195-200lbs range), while improving my times in metcons and ultimately get to a 1000lb CFT.

Re: New to Paleo...critique my diet

A little bump and update. Looks like I may have gotten lost in the shuffle, or people are just tired of providing the same advice (believe me I have used the search function and poured through tons of responses, just trying to get a little specific guidance).

As I was saying, as far as updates go, I am on day 10 of the Paleo challenge, and have yet to hit any bumps along the road. I am down to 202lbs and the WOD's seem to be moving along the same if not better than they were before. I have noticed a little jump in energy, even after only 7 hrs of sleep on a good day (having a 5 month old makes anything over 7 impossible). Looking at my food log, it looks like I am eating around 2500 calories a day. 50% fat, 30% protein, and 20 % carbs. Looking to keep this up for the most part even after 30 days. It's really not all that hard for me, and most days I do not miss any of the old junk I was eating, except for beer, ice cream, and pizza (all of which will be an occasional cheat after my 30 days are up.

Yesterday's Food:

1 c milk,
.5 c blueberries
.5 c strawberries
.5 c walnut/almonds
1 tbs shredded coconut unsweetened

2 eggs
2 pcs bacon

.5 c sunflower seed kernel (raw unsalted)

1 large chicken breast
1.5 c chopped spinach

1 apple
Handful of Almonds

2 pcs of salmon (4oz each)
2 servings of sauteed brussel sprouts

On a side note, I also plan on competing (and by competing I mean participating) in the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Hopper Challenge in November, so even more reason to keep up with my new eating lifestyle.

Re: New to Paleo...critique my diet

I missed your post the first time around, but it probably didn't get answered because it looks like you're doing well.

You haven't included real quantities on anything, so it's hard to get an accurate idea of what a "serving" of meat is.

Personally, i have a problem with a 200lb man eating 50% as many eggs in the morning as i do...but if it's because you have the shake, then i can deal.

I think you could eat more.

Thanks. I must have been updating my last post as you were posting. I do eat less eggs b/c of the shake. The shake is on the way out the door in the am around 7, which usually keeps me full until 11am.
I am going to try adding a little bit more to eat in with my eggs and bacon, I know thats the one meal I can add to without a problem, just a matter of preparing better. My goal as far as calories is to be between 2800-3000, just having a bit of trouble getting there.

Maybe sub coconut milk for regular milk. It's delicious. Otherwise, you're on it!

Re: New to Paleo...critique my diet

I agree with the above about eating more, maybe throw in another egg or two for breakfest, and loose one of the servings of nuts for jerkey, or tuna fish. More food overall and something with a tad more protein and less fat should help you get to your goal of a 1000lb total.

The food looks good, but I think your goals of competition and increasing strength might conflit with getting leaner.

I would set your goals for performance and let your bodyweight fall where its happy.

You don't appear to include any fat at lunch or dinner...which is odd i think.

All my meat is typically covered in olive oil, even if on the grill. Guess I should have included that in there.

I might try switching to that next week. Problem is the expense as compared to regular milk. How do they really compare? Wife already puts up a fight buying organic milk.
