Re: Beware of Kalsu

Decided to get in on this on a wild whim last Saturday (Eva was Friday so I was feeling rather WTHish). 32:58. You guys are wayyy ahead of me in barbell strength and endurance stuff, so I was more about just finishing and not having zero-rep rounds. I wrote down all my reps with scribble scrabble handwriting in between; I dunno if I would've remembered where I was in the fog, haha. It was 7,4,3,3,4,4,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,2,3,3,3,2,3,2,3,2, 3,2,3,2,3,3,3.

That first 2-rep round was where the real pain started to set in. It's funny that the hardest part is not the actual thrusters or burpees, but in those few seconds right before picking up the bar again where you know you have to because there's just enough time before the next burpees start. I also decided I wasn't going to lie down, but there's pretty much no other comfortable position to recover in with an aching back, so I ended up just pacing around, bending over then back up, pacing around some more.

I'll post the vid when I figure out how to edit it for youtube. Go nutso warriors!

Re: Beware of Kalsu

i echo the warning.

did this last thursday. at 95# not 135
it was the hardest workout i have ever done in 2.5 years of Crossfit. hands down. no contest. i ended up just having to SIT in that "dark place" after i got to 50.
was pretty much 5555555555145555555555545 or something like that. i had a counter. all i member is somewhere in the middle i "only did 1 thruster" then 4 then back up to 5 till the end

i was the only male from my affiliate to finish. they had a cap at 30min

still hurts to get out of the car on monday...

woke up sick on saturday.
felt better on sunday. fully better today. i seriously think that it temporarily disabled my immune system...

im totally doing it again in a month or 2
but then at 115
i will consider myself a fire breather when i can actually finish as Rxd

Re: Beware of Kalsu

I've done it with 95#, took me over 17 minutes. Sick, sick stuff.

One thing that needs to be clarified with this WoD, though. Rack or no rack? I saw that Kevin used a rack. I did it off the floor, which makes it all the harder. I'm curious as to what Rob Orlando did and what John intended. I skimmed through the comments (it was the WoD on 6.23.09) (some language, but mostly WFS) but didn't see anything.

Part 1, first 7 minutes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlMgoTxx6HM (wfs)

Part 2, last 6 minutes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyIBxwe0YMU (wfs)

Just realized I forgot to start with the burpees, so not quite correct. Some of my burpees are also questionable, haha. Oh well, next time .

I think we're meant to start on the ground. It's a lot rougher anyways, so why not? Haha.

Yes. Definitely add in elements to make it harder. Why not go with 155?

Nice work, man! Just completing this workout is a big accomplishment. Way to press through to the end, and way to do it off the floor.

But what is with that music? Especially the stuff in the first part . . .

Thanks, I think I might try it again in a month or two and go for some sort of goal time or rep pace.

Haha, the music.. I come from the B-boy community so I love me some funk. Gangsta rap probably would've been more fitting, but that **** makes my head throb in the middle of a heavy metcon. I know most people here like the dogs growling metal music , haha. To each their own .

Re: Beware of Kalsu

Haven't tried this but saw the 135 lb. thrusters thing:

I did a WOD the other day that was

15-12-9-6:

135 lb. thrusters
chest to bar pullups

Took me 19:20 as I was doing 1 thruster rep at a time. I was happy to finish THAT workout with 135 lb. Never heard of Kalsu before now but eff that until I gain 30 or 40 pounds. Hah.

Crazy.

Re: Beware of Kalsu

Our box did a variation on this today, was a good intro to this WOD.

100 thrusters (95/65) for time. Every time you let go of the bar, you do 5 burpees.

Was pretty tough for nearly everyone, especially around the 50-60 rep mark. Most times were high teens/low twenties.

Who knew burpees could be a rest exercise...
