Re: "Angie" in 10:10

I hate to point this out and look like a jerk, but since his goal is to go to the CF Games, I don't think they would count any of those reps as squats at the Games.

Re: "Angie" in 10:10

Those would not be considered legit squats at our gym-nowhere near parallel. Sorry to criticize, but.....

Re: "Angie" in 10:10

Also, the rules for Angie explicitly say "complete all of the reps of one exercise before moving on to the next..." which means that this wasn't "Angie."

Also, not to beat a dead horse, but as his trainer/ coach, you are doing him a disservice by not making him use full range of motion and then boost him up by telling him that he is an animal... You have to give him a reasonable expectation of what a judge is going to expect of him in a competition.

Re: "Angie" in 10:10

Not only are the squats not close to being below parallel, not one comes close to achieving full hip extension at the top. None would count in our gym. I would suspect that if done in the correct order, without anchoring on the SUs, and not counting less than full ROM squats, this athlete's "Angie" time would be well over 20:00. By comparison, we have one athlete with a 12:38 "Angie" with the above standards and chest-to-bar PUs.

Re: "Angie" in 10:10

Like everybody else mentioned:

1 You don't break Angie up in to 5 or 10 rounds of each excercise.
2. The squats were awful.

Also, we never never anchor sit-ups. Always do butteryfly. This is just our standard, though.

I would have him do it again correct.

Guys... He probably gets it by now.

As for the anchored vs. unanchored sit-ups: It's basically the same argument as kipping pull-ups vs. strict pull-ups. Which, as we all know, has been discussed to death many, many times.

Re: "Angie" in 10:10

Wow, Frank...

One thing is when you're not getting below parallel on your own squats or not getting high enough on a weighted pull-ups. Your fitness, your illusions.

But cheating others out of fitness by not showing/teaching the proper standards - that's criminal.
What happens when you send a guy like Chris to a Sectional Qualifier & judges will destroy him by not counting half of his reps (or all of them & rightfully so). Or he'll try to move on to the next exercise when not all reps are completed and tell the judge that he'll get back to that later?

What kind of message will it send to him about CrossFit? About you?

If some folks are just doing some silly workouts, but they're having fun & not pretending to be super bad *** athletes with no aspirations - it might not matter as much, but in this case - that's too much.

Re: "Angie" in 10:10

I really wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt and hope that this was just one out of character video of what is going on in your gym. Then I watched some of your other videos. The ROM is terrible.
I was just a judge at the Iron Curtain Challenge and I can tell you that with reps like that this poor kid is in for an awfully long and disappointing day at the sectional qualifier. You owe it to this kid to give him realistic expectations and correct his ROM.

Frank, I urge to get back in the CrossFit Journals, watch the demo videos, repeat a level I, visit other affiliates and observe their coaching and standards (hopefully ones with legitimate coaching). With the amount of resources available to you, it is simply inexcusable to not know better.
