WEC> Aug 3, 2008 @ 9:00

Brian Stann vs. Steve Cantwell

Carols Condit vs Hiromitsu Miura

Jamie Varner Vs. Marcus Hicks

Anybody here - besides me - watch/follow the WEC?
Stoked to see Condit and Stann fighting on the same card - I can't wait!

I used to go to all of them when they had them up in Lemoore, CA. Back in the old days.

They always did put on a good show and it's only gotten better since Zuffa bought them.

Stann is going to destroy Cantwell, KO is the first 90 seconds.

How would Stann stand in the UFC at 205?

Inexperienced... but would do well against like-fighters, I'd guess.

Give him 10 more fights - and look out!

Those are similar to my thoughts, though I really don't know a whole lot about Stann (e.g. ground game), just his 1st round KO reputation.

I can see him making the move to the UFC in the next 6 to 12 months. If the WEC keeps giving him fights that end in the first round or two, he's going to want to prove himself against more seasoned fighters - and the only way to do that is in the UFC. I think it would be an issue for him -- he'd want to take on "better" opponents. That isn't to take away anything from the WEC - the fighters are top notch - it is more a testament to his hard work and dedication and desire to beat anyone in front of him.

Article from yesterday's Washington Post (made the front page of the Sports section - which is amazing, b/c the Post rarely covers MMA at all!):

Great fights all around.

I'm starting to think I should substitute triangle body locks for closed guard.

Stann would get destroyed at 205 in the UFC. Literally destroyed.

That Condit/Miura fight was the best I've seen in a long time. There was some wicked Judo/BJJ going on there.
